Kate Sylvester was the latest, coldest and probably most anticipated (perhaps because of the aforementioned factors?) off site show of RAFW 2011. I missed run through so winged it and shot from the sideline guerilla style & with no flash. The final snake and a long exposure made for a beautiful loose sequence that may have been of no use to press but have become personal favourites.

miss

Photobucket PhotobucketPhotobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket This time in a week! Miss Unkon really was a dream to photograph last year. Body paint, braids and all the prettiest, fresh faced models. As I'm going through my RAFW 2011 archive I realise I must have been somewhat in the middle of a melt down (in fact, yes I remember, I definitely was) as I don't seem to have shared much of what I shot with you guyz...I'm giving permission for trolling and pestering comments as motivation to stay on top of it this time round. What shows are you looking forward to this MBFWA? Photos: Rachel Kara

What a beautiful weekend it was. Laying in the grass, drinking tea and sangria (not always in that order), frying polenta, poaching eggs, sitting on the balcony, staring at the fields, chasing cows, dirt roads, mountains, valleys, a giant wooden swing, chocolate bunnies, the ocean, the wind, a wooden cabin, duck egg blue bed linen, falling sweetly asleep to the sounds of Melody Gardot...all with my love at my side. Many more photos to share with you soon.

My memories of this night in New York are so beautifully chaotic it makes my heart race. I was exhausted from playing Mum (to 3 gorgeous but consuming children) in Manhattan for days prior, but was way too hungry for this city to simply go to sleep at night. I walked hard and fast from the East to the West and didn't for a second feel the chill that was building up (it snowed less than 24 hours later) around me. I sat on those red steps in Time Square confused and in awe of the way the lights and the traffic and the people made me feel. I was alive but disconnected. Excited but drained. Hungry but...oh wait, no buts there, I was definitely hungry. SHAKE SHACK. I sat up at a bench, just me and my fur and freshly purchased Jo Malone and stared into space as I ate my burger and replayed the scene of me lingering at the fragrance counter in Barneys talking top notes and dewy florals as the well suited man tied thick black ribbons around the pretty cream boxes so precisely.

*Sigh*

I love how life feels like a movie in New York city. It heightens reality - the good and the bad - and always leaves you wanting more.
It's not over yet...

I like the photos Misha Taylor takes, and I like even more that his bio states "lives between New York, Paris and Africa". Dream. This set (featured on Nowness) documents a trip Taylor took Traveling from Cape Town to Pretoria on the restored 1930s era train, Rovos Rail, with his (very pretty) actress girlfriend, Julie Fournier.
Word on the street tells me there has or will be a new (social media) push for South African tourism and this may well be part of it...but heck, good job - I'm now itching to get on train and drink tea with rattling china & silverware whilst the world whirls by. Got some travel bug at the moment (slash most of my life).
